4090 Discontinued, RTX 50 series timing rumours

Last updated: 2024/12/19

Nvidia's RTX 4090, the current top-of-the-line GPU, is well and truly discontinued with no new units being made. Looking at the price graph, existing stock prices have gone up considerably. If it was not great value to buy one before it's defintely terrible value now.

Rumours suggest the RTX 50 series will launch in Q1 2025, with the flagship RTX 5090 and 5090 D leading the lineup alongside the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. The lower-end RTX 5070, 5060 Ti, and 5060 are expected to follow, though their exact release dates remain unconfirmed. This timeline would mark roughly 18 months since the previous generation's launch.

Memory configurations for the new series show significant improvements, with the RTX 5090 sporting 32GB of GDDR7 memory - a substantial upgrade from the 4090's 24GB. The RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti are both rumored to feature 16GB of GDDR7 memory, while the RTX 5070 is expected to come with 12GB. Specifications for the 5060 Ti and 5060 are still to be determined.
